During an emergency evacuation, the primary purpose of an ABBA (an acronym for Airborne Basic Breathing Apparatus) is to ensure that crew members can assist passengers efficiently and effectively. Placing ABBAs closest to the exit for which they are briefed allows for quick access, enabling flight attendants to don the gear immediately as needed and facilitate a swift evacuation. This strategy is crucial in emergencies, where every second counts and being prepared can significantly enhance safety.

Locating ABBAs at the front of the aircraft or in the galley area could impede the flight attendants' ability to respond quickly to an emergency, as these locations might not be the nearest exit points for most emergency scenarios.
